Fecal incontinence

Fecal incontinence is the involuntary leakage of gas or stool from the rectum. It ranges from uncontrolled leakage of gas through occasional leakage of stool while passing gas, to complete loss of bowel control.

Common causes include nerve damage and pelvic floor muscle damage. It may also be associated with common conditions such as diarrhea and constipation.

Treatment options are either non surgical (diet modification and pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation) or surgical.
